Will a salt bath be good for my beta fish to treat some weird strands coming out of his gills?

i was looking up what could be wrong with my male and it could be parasites or flukes. im not really sure but ive had him for over half a year and this is the first time ive seen something wrong with him. he lives with 4 other different types of catfish and they all seem fine. if a salt bath is good for him, i want to know how to give him one and what to use for it. also i would like to know how this could have started since he's been perfectly healthy until now. i have a couple live plants and a few silk, the normal stuff. i had a marble molly that died recently in the same tank as my betta and i know that fish release some sort of gas or toxin when they die. could my molly could have done it? but i started seeing these strands just before the molly died. but anyways, to sum it up, why does my betta have strands coming from his gills and how do i give a betta a salt-water bath? thanks!!!Will a salt bath be good for my beta fish to treat some weird strands coming out of his gills?
well ive never given a salt bath to any of my fish. it sounds like you have gill flukes-they make medications for that. if i were you, i would buy the medication and treat the WHOLE tank-im betting that the parasite is in more fish.

also adding a little aquarium salt keeps some forms of parasites away-they dont like the salt. once you treat the tank, wait a few days, syphon your gravel and do a 50 percent waterchange (adding more dechlor-some ppl forget lol).

you should be doing a 50 percent waterchange every other week anyways, just to keep your nitrate levels low and make everyone happy.

just a little background on flukes-there are two types and they are easy for fish to catch. the fluke lives for about a week, drops eggs and if they dont find a host the eggs die off. flukes are VERY contagious to your other fish-thats why i said treat the whole tank.

there is a medication that alot of fishkeepers for parasites called Prazipro-its cheap-go get you some. they also make something called Fluke tabs-but they are harsh on fish. id go with Prazipro.
