Goldfish and salt bath?

i have one goldfish that has a damaged tail and have decided to give him a salt bath. but i also have another fantail and was wondering if i should isolate the damaged fantail from the other or if i can just add the salt to the water change for the two of them.

will it affect the other?

i am sure that whatever is in the water will most likely harm my other fantail so i was thinking it might do him good to have this treatment done to him too, but i am not sure.

any ideas?

goldfish don't fandle salt to well, I'd suggest against the salt bath. some people have even reported too much salt causes finrot like effects.

of course that's not to say it hasn't worked for some.

however I read your other question and I can tell you now it's from poor water quality. you need to start doing more frequent water changes and get liquid test strips as the ammonia alert isn't very accurate and it doesn't watch nitrite and nitrate. take some to petsmart or petco for a free water sample first if you don't believe me.

if you want to use salt, I'd suggest 1 tablespoon per 5gallons, just keep it in the tank. it's a low dosage and will help. also, this is one of the FEW times I would suggest something like melafix just tokeep it from getting worse and to promote healing.

just please get your water checked, ammonia is NOT the only thing that's dangerous. you need to test for nitrite and nitrate as well, your tank is probably still cycling.Goldfish and salt bath?
I don't recommend giving the Goldfish a salt bath as they don't tolerate it like Kylie Anne has said. There is such a large controversy around this, but really, there is nothing the salt will do to help your Goldfish's tail.

Now, usually with Fin Rot, the best medicine is keeping the water as clean as possible via water changes. Always make sure that your Cycled tank's water levels have zero Ammonia and Nitrites and under 20ppm of Nitrates. Using products like Stress Coat Plus or Prime can help since it helps with slime coating and progress in healing.

If your Goldie's tail continues to digress and get worse, then I would recommend an anti-bacterial/antibiotic medication that you know is okay for Goldfish (you can ask on the websites provided in the forums about the meds). Good luck.

Salt wont hurt them, it's good to treat goldfish with salt every few months to boost their immune system.
Salt does not affect fin rot. And It would be a good idea to put the goldfish in seperate bowls. You shouldnt filter salt. And you should let them in there over night
